6 perfect questions

rtyjtiehuygtwf- that was dustin, (a pimp straight outta cali yo. reppin west side to the fullest.)

My questions for Collins
1. Why did the real first two lines of the poem fail? What were they?
2. Are you mocking the style of the original poem?
3. Why can't she be the pine-scent? Does that symbolize something else? Because he is very adament about it.
4. Who is the peom about? Does that matter?
5. When he begins to talk about himself and what he is, why does he pick those things?
6. Is the whole poem being mocked by the rewrite?

  1. 3. She can't be pine scented because pine scent is a nice scent, something favorable. Collins has parts in his poem dedicated to making the point that his "lover" is not as great as some of the wordly objects he compares her to.
    4. I don't think this poem is about anyone in particular. It's not an actual love poem, he is making a point about comparisons in love poems.
    2. Yes, he is mocking the style of the original poem. I think his intent is to show how absurd and ridiculous some of the comparisons in western love poetry become.

  2. lmao wow and dustin lives right next to me, we are friends from orientation. He can be oblivious to the things around him because the other night his door was open so I sneaked in and sat right next to him and he didn't notice until like two minutes later.

but anyway to get to your perfect questions....

    2. Yes he is mocking the style of the first poem. The first poem is an old western love poem which uses metaphors that have meaning in order to compare the beloved to the things in nature that he finds are amazing. Clearly Collins doesn't do the same in his poem> This is shown by the lack of seriousness in the tone of the poem.

    1. They didn't necessarily fail they just weren't what he was looking for. He was looking for examples that could be tied to being sacred and pure.

    3. The beloved can't be the pine scented air because the pine scented air has NO flaws. His whole poem revolves around the fact that the beloved does have flaws thats why Collins chooses to make his poem not like a real Old Western Love Poem because they never acknowledged the flaws.
